On Sunday, February 3, Antwerpen was shocked by a bold theft of precious stones from the bank’s vault serving the largest diamond market in the world. Police arrived at a crime scene at 13:34 local time. It was summoned by a security company that provides security for BNP Paribas Fortis bank.
They found a gaping hole in the vault floor! It led into a four-meter tunnel, which was connected to another tunnel and city sewage system. At least 30 safes were robbed.. While the amount of the stolen is not disclosed, local media are confident that we are talking about several tens of millions of dollars!
