Naturopathic physician, Dr. William Eidelman misdiagnosed a 4-year-old boy with bipolar disorder and attention deficit disorder and prescribed him marijuana cookies.
Now the medical board is revoking the doctor’s license not because he prescribed cannabis to a child but because he was negligent for not consulting a psychiatrist.
The father was worried about his son’s misbehavior at school, so in September 2012 he turned to Dr. Eidelmanm, who prescribed small amounts of cannabis to the boy. It was discovered when the school nurse was asked to give the boy his marijuana cookies at lunchtime.
Dr. Eidelman appealed against the ruling and is going to continue his practice.
The use of cannabis as a medicine has been legal in California since 1996, and Dr. Eidelman estimates that he has prescribed cannabis to thousands of patients.
