The European Parliament has voted to recognize the President of the National Assembly and the leader of the opposition Juan Guaido as the interim president of Venezuela.

Juan Guaido was proclaimed as the interim president of Venezuela according to Article 233 of the constitution, says the statement published by the European Parliament.

This Article states that the interim president shall be the president of the National Assembly when the president-elect is absolutely absent. Guaido also referred to Article 333 that encourages the citizens to fulfill their duty to collaborate to restore democracy.

The European Parliament also urges the European Union to follow suit and recognize Guaido as the interim leade of Venezuela.
