Most women who survived this terrible operation live in Africa and the Middle East, however, there are cases of female circumcision in Asia and Latin America. Among other things, such operations were conducted in Western Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand according to UN.
Almost all of these cases are related to the lives of isolated ethnic groups and communities of immigrants from Africa. According to the UN, even in Spain, there are 18,000 girls in the risk zone – mostly from immigrant families.
The UN calls for an end to this practice – February 6 declared a day of intolerance to female circumcision.
Female circumcision is a partial or complete removal of external female genitals without medical indications.
This operation is often carried out against woman’s will in many countries. Female circumcision can cause serious health problems, including mental issues.
