Last year, European policymakers adopted a law on data privacy. The French data protection authority announced this Monday that it fined Google $ 57 million because Google did not disclose to users the complete data collection procedure in its main services, such as: Search engine, Google Maps and YouTube.
The punishment will be the largest for the company to date, in accordance with the general data protection provision, which came into force in May last year. Facebook is also subject to investigations by confidential data protection authorities in Europe.
The ruling signals a new phase in enforcing the European law.
