Eight people were killed and another 30 injured as a result of a fire in a residential building in Paris.

The flames broke out on the night of Tuesday, February 5th, in an eight-story building on Erlanger Street – next to the Park de Princes football stadium in the 16th district of the capital.

During the investigation of the reason of the fire law enforcement detained a woman on suspicion of involvement in the incident. Paris Public Prosecutor Remy Heyz told reporters that a woman is in custody.

“This was a very strong fire,” said the captain of the Paris Fire Service.

According to authorities the victims of the incident were residents of the house. The fire began on the upper floors and spread to other parts of the building.


Some of the victims climbed on the roof to escape from the smoke and flame. About 200 firefighters fought the fire. Three rescuers are among the injured.
