Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro called for the army to be subordinate and united.
“I ask the Bolivarian Armed Forces, the military of our homeland, for maximum loyalty, maximum unity, maximum discipline. This time we will win again. We will win this fight,” said Maduro, speaking at the rally.
On Wednesday, Venezuelan Speaker of Parliament Juan Guaido declared himself a temporary head of state for the period of the interim government in the country. The U.S. announced the recognition of Guaido and demanded from Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, whom it does not consider to be the legitimate head of state, to prevent the use of force against the opposition.
In response, Maduro said that he was breaking off diplomatic and political relations with the U.S., and diplomats should leave the country within 72 hours.
