On Friday, at 5:47 a.m. police found severely injured Brenda Hamilton, 77 on Indian Run Road in Pantego, North Carolina reported Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.
In critical condition, Hamilton was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors were trying to save her life. Her death was announced on Monday.
North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission Officers and Biologist are conducting tests to determine what kind of animal attacked Hamilton.
“At this time preliminary DNA testing facilitated by NC Wildlife Biologist has eliminated any wild animals indigenous to the area,” police said.
Preliminary DNA testing found K9 DNA on Hamilton’s clothing. However, the testing “differentiate between wild K9s such as wolf or coyote” so it remains unknown what kind of animal it was, either domestic or wild.
Police are currently collecting DNA from local dogs.
Before her tragical death, Brenda Hamilton was a high school teacher at Pungo Christian Academy.
“It is with the heaviest of hearts that I share our precious Mrs. Hamilton has gained her wings,” wrote Pungo Christian Academy in commemoration of the late teacher.
