Florida police accidentally discovered a tunnel leading from neighboring woods to a bank building.

A motorist advised he found something what resembled a sinkhole in a street not far from a Chase bank branch, Pembroke Pines.

The FBI and Florida authorities, which found boots, a ladder and a small generator inside the tunnel, assume the tunnel was part of bank robbery planning.

The tunnel is leading under the road towards the bank, a distance of about 45 metres, and it is approximately 60 centimetres wide.

Investigators said the tunnel appeared to have been dug manually using tools such as a pickaxe, and a small wagon used to transport soil and rock outside.

The bank was working its normal hours, no robbery attempts have been made. Police is examining the tunnel more precisely.
