The next president of El Salvador will be Nayib Bukele. According to the country’s Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE), he won the majority of votes in Sunday’s election.
TSE have reported that all his opponents have already acknowledged his victory.
However, not all votes have been counted yet. According to the TSE statistics, only 90% of votes have been counted and Bukele gathered more than 54% of the vote.
But he is already receiving congratulations from the leaders of other Central American countries on social media.
Panama’s president, Juan Carlos Varela, wrote he will “work hand in hand with this sister nation,” and praised Bukele’s win after a “democratic and peaceful electoral feast.”
Venezuela’s self-declared interim president, Juan Guaido also chimed in, calling the election day “exemplary.”
