AU commissioner Smail Chergui in the talks in Khartoum

Central African Republic has agreed peace deal with rebel groups.

Officials said that negotiations over the peace agreement has been stuck after talks in Sudan.

Current deal was announced by the UN mission in CAR and African Union. Both these institutes have sponsored the talks in Khartoum.

“This is a great day for Central African Republic and all its people,” said AU commissioner Smail Chergui.

The government said the peace deal would be signed in Bangui soon.

“This agreement should be initialled on Sunday and its signing will take place in Bangui in a few days,” officials added.

Details of the agreement have not been released. Previous agreements have had collapsed.
