In his general audience on February 13, Pope Francis honored Saints Cyril and Methodius, two brothers, who were evangelizers of Slavs and co-patron saints of Europe, whose feast is celebrated on February, 14. He referred to their missionary work as an example for everyone to “become disciples and missionaries” in all aspects of life to encourage others to be faithful to God.
He concluded his speech with the words: “May their love for the Lord give us the strength to bear every sacrifice, so that the Gospel may become the fundamental rule of our life.”
Pope Francis often calls on politicians to conduct peace negotiations. Recently, he sent a letter to Nicolas Maduro responding to a recent invitation to mediate in the Venezuelan political crisis, according to an Italian newspaper.
On Feb. 13, the Milan daily newspaper Corriere Della Sera published a report saying that the pope had written to Maduro reiterating his desire for the avoidance of violence in the country.
