Drug stores and hospitals are to halt the sales and use of popular medicine Eurespal and other Fenspiride drugs. Research earlier showed that the drug can cause heart disorders such as arrhythmias.
According to the order issued by the Department of Health, the following drugs have to be withdrawn: Inspiron (tablets and syrup), Syresp (syrup), Fenspiride (syrup and tablets), Eurespal (syrup and tablets). They had been often prescribed for cough, laryngitis, bronchitis, nasopharyngitis, and bronchial asthma.
The harmful effect can be experienced only in the course of the treatment, so those who have been taken Eurespal before are in no danger. According to the research center, those who are currently taking this drug should consult a physician to replace it with another Fenspiride-free drug.
The ban is effective until the Department of Health estimates the risks and benefits ratio.
A couple of European countries including France already banned Fenspiride drugs on the same grounds. Les Laboratoires Servier, the producer of Europene made a decision to withdraw the drug from the market for the sake of the customers’ health.
