It occurred in the area of Adawi, where the Russian diplomatic mission is located on Omara Ben Al-Khattaba Street. SANA specifies that an improvised explosive device was planted in a car parked on the street. No one was injured by the explosion and the bomb caused only material damage. In November 2017, the Russian Embassy in Damascus was subjected to several mortar attacks. One shell hit the external fence of the Embassy adjacent to the residential complex.
