Emiliano Sala, French Nantes forward, signed a contract with Cardiff City on January 19. The club plays in the English Premier League, is in the departure zone and is the only club from Wales. For Cardiff this transfer was a record-breaking one, the player cost 15 million pounds.
On Monday at 7 p.m., the player left France for the club on a private plane. An hour and a half after the flight the plane disappeared from the radar over the Channel in the Guernsey Island area. The footballer and the pilot were on board a private Piper-Malibu.
On Tuesday afternoon, Guernsey Island Police reported that the plane was requesting emergency landing permits at night, but disappeared from the radar at an altitude of about 700 meters. The search operation lasted up to two o’clock in the morning and resumed again today. No traces have been found so far. The water temperature in the search area is about 10-11 degrees, so the chances of salvation are minimal.
