Two young siblings, a boy and a girl, were killed in a three-car crash on Wednesday that also sent two other children and two adults to the hospital with injuries.

9-year old Jadyn Lamas, and his 7-year-old sister Natalya Lamas from Ludlow, were rushed to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield following the car collision that occurred at about 2:50 p.m. The children were pronounced dead at the hospital, said spokesman for the Hampden District Attorney Office James Leydon.

“Hampden District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni offers his sympathies to Lamas family during this tragic and difficult time,” Leydon said.

He disclosed that the investigation into the crash showed a 2003 Dodge Durango, driven by the father of the four children, was heading east on Shawinigan Drive when it veered into the westbound side of the street and crashed into a Ford tanker truck.

The out-of-control Durango then continued for a significant distance and crashed into a Dodge Caravan. The collisions occurred near the intersection of Russell Street, according to the spokesman.

The other two children in the Durango were also rushed to Baystate Medical Center. Leydon didn’t reveal the information about the severity of their condition.

The driver and the passenger of the Dodge Caravan were severely injured and hospitalized, he said.

The driver of the Ford truck suffered no injuries, said the spokesman.

The Ludlow Police Department is currently conduction the investigation. Other authorities involved in the investigation are the Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services, Collision Analysis and Reconstruction, and the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Sections.

Parts of Shawinigan Drive and Russell Street were closed for nearly 5 hours due to the investigation. At about 7:45 p.m. the roads were re-opened.
