President Trump did not answer to the question about Robert Mueller’s investigation on Russian collusion in the 2016 election and continuing talks about the US-Mexico border wall during the interview.
He is claimed not to be under the investigation on possible Russian collusion in the 2016 election. His layer was notified that Trump is not the target in Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.
Moreover, talks in Congress over the wall funding, which was the reason of the recent government shutdown, were a “waste of time”, said President Trump.
New York Time has interviewed President Trump, who has been calling NYT “failing” in the past for several times.
Interview was taken after Mr. Trump has contacted New York Time’s publisher AG Sulzberger. Mr. Sulzberger asked Trump to “stop his attacks on the media” last year, adding that “they could lead to violence against journalists.”
Mr. Trump was asked a wide range of questions during the interview. Here are briefly some points:
- The border wall
Following the dismissing of negotiations between Democrats and Republicans in Congress over the topic, Trump stated “I’ll continue to build the wall, and we’ll get the wall finished.”
President Trump is asking for $5.7 billion for a wall on the southern border. Democrats refuse to provide it.
- Russian collusion in the 2016 election
Talking to NYT reporters, Trump said that he received assurances from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.
Trump suggested that he may not have spoken to him in person, adding: “The lawyers ask him. They say: ‘He’s (Trump – ed.) not a target of the investigation’.”
Neither Mr. Rosenstein nor Mr. Muller have commented this statement. But some expert say that the term “target” cannot be used for Mr.Trump because sitting presidents are immune from prosecution.
- Trump Towers Project in Moscow
Talking over the project to construct a Trump building in Moscow, Trump said that his lawyer has been “wrong” to say that.
Mr.Giuliani, president’s lawyer, had already stated that he was wrong when talking about the project.
However, former Trump’s lawyer has accused president on lying to Congress at least three times about the Moscow project.
- Trumps political future
Dismissing that he might not run for re-election in upcoming votes, Trumps said that he loves his job.
But he added that as a president he has already lost “massive amount of money”.
