Trump is starting a campaign to bring the HIV epidemic in the US to an end by 2030 aiming the high-infection areas and involving treatment with highly effective medication.
According to officials, the campaign will be focused on 48 counties where half of the new infections occur. Alex M. Azar II, the secretary of health and human services, who cooperated on Trump’s plan said that the ultimate goal is to cut new infections by 75 percent in the course of five years to eventually end America’s HIV epidemic by 2030. Among those 48 targeted counties are Los Angeles, Miami, Houston, Chicago, Atlanta, Phoenix.
The infected will be treated with antiretroviral drugs that reduce the amount of HIV in their organism. The drugs are said to not only treat HIV but also reduce its spread.
